Wells across Bartow County

Bartow County sits on two kinds of rock. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, about three-quarters of the county, the northwest and central parts, is limestone, dolomite, shale and sandstone, where water moves through cracks and dissolved channels in the rock and is generally hard. The southeastern quarter, toward Allatoona Lake, is harder granite gneiss and schist, where well water tends to be softer. That is why two neighbors can have very different wells, and why hard-water scale shows up in so many pumps, valves and pipes.

Whatever the town, the usual problems are the same: no water at all, weak pressure, a pump that clicks on and off, or a pump at the end of its life. If you're building outside the county water lines, see new well drilling.
